Women's Business Leadership - PART II

 

Last semester, Part I of this class produced a 150%+ increase in student's entrepreneurial self confidence.

SUMMARY:

Summary: In this class, students move beyond core lessons from WBL Part One to develop their own business plan, engage in a mini-internship, and practice leading groups of WBL students and each other in group exercises. This class is taught by the instructor of the award-winning Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership Class. as seen in the Washington Post Magazine article, "CEO of ME, Inc." 

 

Timing:

  • 3 Wednesdays 7.30 pm to 10.00 pm between 10/6-12/15 in Washington, DC (Oct 20, Oct 27, and Dec 1)
  • 4 group meetings
  • 1 internship experience, October 9 8.30 am to 12 pm or other event TBD
  • LOTS of individual work drafting and re-drafting business plans. Only disciplined students ready for this commitment are encouraged to take WBL PART II.

Cost: $362.

Where: Three sessions at GW's Foggy Bottom Campus, group meeting locations to be determined by student group members.

 

DETAIL:

This a workshop series taught by GWSB faculty member Kathy Korman Frey in cooperation with the George Washington University School of Business, Center for Entrepreneurial Excellence. Prof Frey is the founder of the award-winning women's leadership and mentoring initiative, the Hot Mommas Project, and Entrepreneur in Residence at the George Washington University School of Business.

Proceeds from this class directly benefit research from the Hot Mommas Project, a women's leadership research project housed at the George Washington University School of Business, Center for Entrepreneurial Excellence.

Course components:

  • 25% Plan Development - Students develop a detailed business plan. Extensive writing required.
  • 25% Advanced Mentorship/Internship Skills. Each student must engage in a mini-internship in which they are working side by side with professionals. This event will be October 9th from 8.30 am to 12 pm at the George Washington University, or another event to be approved by instructor.
  • 25% Advanced Leadership -  Students will lead groups of WBL I students in exercises, as well as each other in weekly group work around their business plan assignments.
  • 25% Participation - Students will recieve 1/4 of their grade on attendance and participation.

This workshop series is NOT for registered students of the George Washington University to whom the Women's Entrepreneurial Leadership Class (MGT 190/290) is available.

  • Hours: 36 hours per semester. A letter will be provided to all participants confirming their participation. University credit is not provided. Cultural exchange students: This class fulfills 36 ofyour 72 hours of required education.

Q: Why should I sign up for the class NOW when it starts in October?

A: Because the class fills up. To guarantee your space, register by clicking on the orange button at the top of this page. Registration will close September 30th.

Q: If something happens, and I cannot take the class, will I get my money back?

A: Yes. Refunds are provided less the processing fee until two weeks before the first class (9/22)

Q: Where is it?

A: Part II will be a combination of GW Foggy Bottom Campus, and group meeeting sites TBD with by the student groups. 

Q: How many credit hours is it? Will I get a letter?

A: The class is 36 hours. You will get a letter acknowledging your completion of the course. Cultural Exchange Students: This is an approved class which fulfills 36 of your 72 hours of education required by the State Department.

Q: What type of business are we studying?

A: This class is focused on skills for entrepreneurship, and general women’s leadership so you can have skills that will help you be successful in any job, or starting your own business.

Q: I am not confident in my English skills, should I take the class?

A: No. Part II is only for advanced students. Extensive writing is required.
